Marx's analyses of capitalism works through from an account of alienation and 'historical materialism' to the 'commodification' of labour in the market economy and the exploitation of the working classes. It then moves on to the analyse the 'crises' which lead to the overthrow of capitalism and the establishment of a 'higher stage of history': socialism.
